We’re on countdown to our 2nd Annual Big Blue BBQ on Sunday, July 31st, at the lovely San Dieguito County Park in Del Mar. Last year, this event raised enough $ to realize our longtime vision of Coastal and Inland Democratic Election HQs in North County (Carlsbad Mall and Downtown Escondido) several weeks before the November 2010 election. Both were very successful in increasing voter registration, voting by mail and voter contacts for our endorsed candidates and proposition positions.
Our goal for 2012 is to have at least 2 Democratic Election HQs in North County AND to open them before the June “Open” Primary for State legislative and Federal congressional offices, with NEW district lines being set this year. Only the top 2 vote-getters for these races will make it onto the November General Election ballot. If the Democratic candidate does not win at least one of the top two spots in these primaries, we will not have any Democrat to vote for in the General Election.
EARLY voter outreach will be ESPECIALLY important in these Open Primaries for NEW Legislative and Congressional Districts — and we want to open our North County Election HQs in high-traffic locations at least a month before the June Primary Election Day to help get out the word for our endorsed Democratic candidates. To meet this ambitious goal, we need to raise money THIS year, and use the proceeds from next summer’s Big Blue BBQ to keep these HQs open through the General Election in November 2012.
